During the long winter, the crew was faced with the grueling task of hauling building supplies to the site of the new lodge. This involved moving materials thirty miles through the bush and deep snow.
After the spring thaw, before construction could begin, shack tents and a cookhouse had to be erected as accommodations for the crew. During this two week period, the crew lived in small tents.
Construction began in mid-June. Although the rest of Saskatchewan experienced very wet weather and record rainfall values for June (170 mm), the MacIntyre Lake Lodge region was enveloped by a stable, relatively dry air mass, allowing for construction to proceed as scheduled.
As of July 8, two of the four guest cabins are close to completion, with construction beginning on the final two guest cabins. We expect these will be completed by early August.
Plans are to begin work on the main lodge within the first couple of weeks in August, with completion slated for the beginning of September.
The crew has been fishing MacIntyre, Cree, and Holgar Lakes in the evening hours, after work. They report superb angling. |
